Follow your Heart Girl….<3
I’m following my heart…. New Orleans Jazz Festival was amazing this past weekend for more reasons than one! It was the first time I soooo felt at home. Everything about it resonated with me the vibe the music the people…especially the music! It was like all the things I enjoy music, clothing, books ect make sense to me now. Being there this weekend solidify my thoughts on Jazz and Blues. There is an appreciation and market for it and it’s not just for old folks. I remember being told how crazy I am for even considering singing this style of music and being told it’s for old folks. Well that’s definitely not true!
You reach several turning points in life. This weekend I had another one. I got the chance to sing on the streets for money with a great musician and friend who performed at Jazz fest Sam Friend http://hoodoosauce.com/. We made a good amount of money in a small amount of time. Performing in the street helped me so much; it built my confidence and I was able to finally connect. I had trouble connecting for weeks due to over thinking and not just flowing. I reverted to my old ways and started searching for answers/validation from people and reaching outwards instead of listening to what’s inside of me….my heart. All my insecurities was relieved on that corner as I belted out some classics and original music and the crowd was amazed and loving it… I’m in love with my world right now. From now on my morning mantra will be “follow your heart girl stay true and it will all fall into place”….

Being a musician there is some pressure to have an image. Truth is as an artist what you wear is a form of artistic expression. I’ve haven’t put much thought into it until now. Being truthful I’ve never cared to put thought into it. I’ve always had this attitude of “I am what I am”. But realistically speaking “I am” can be a fabulous woman everyday and own it and that is what I want my personal style to represent. I’ve been sooo focused on perfecting my craft. When you’re as busy as I am juggling 3 or 4 things at a time there is not much time to worry about what you’re wearing… And I’m not in love with shopping, it’s too time consuming. I used to indulged in fashion but haven’t been able to really get my swag on until recently both my vocal coach and manager are like “girl you need to find your style”. Does that mean find yourself? Because that I have…I know exactly who I am. What I need is to find the time and inspiration….Bianca Jagger embodies everything I want to be. Her eclectic style embodies everything she’s glamour, hippie, edgy, classic and polish. The same goes for Kate Moss another fashion icon inspiration…

I definitely feel most improved vocally this past week. To sing on my radio show can be challenging for two reasons I have to learn multiple songs in under a week and sit in my chair while singing them on the show. Like any athlete preparing for a game you have to practice and focus on progressing to win. I have been studying for a year with a vocal coach and all though I had improved I felt like I plateau or more like out grew that situation. To be great you must surround yourself with greatness! I got the opportunity to start working with legendary industry vocal coach Ankh Ra and Terrence Riddick. It’s a big difference when you work with people on that level. …It’s inspiring. It was such a positive and motivating experience. I can see myself hitting those high notes soon!
